Letter to the Editor
By Dr. Gordon Kingsley Dear Manor Mouse, A very clever and interesting article in the February 14 Manor Mouse observed "On close inspection it's hard to say what the mysterious black figure is, but some swear it is photographic evidence of what Harlaxton officials are swearing isn't true. There are ghost[s] in Harlaxton. "Bonnie Koopman, a graduate of Harlaxton and junior at the University of Evansville, said in an email, 'They've been telling us there aren't any ghosts since long before I was at Harlaxton (spring 2006). but no one really expects them to tell us the truth, it might scare away students.'" I certainly understand how someone might ascribe such views to Harlaxton officials, and perhaps some of my "officials" do take this view. But in my five years as Principal at Harlaxton for five years I have never said that Harlaxton is bereft of ghosts. To those of us who live here all the time, the whole house is alive. My experience has always been of a benevolent presence, a gentle, brooding maternal figure who looks after us and takes care of us. I don't think our kind Harlaxton presences will scare students at all. Thank you, Gordon Kingsley |
